Give the people what they want.

The very idea of culture change is to give the people what they want. When you look at it this way everything becomes simple. When it comes to eating, do you want a choice of foods? Would you like to eat at a time that is most suitable to you? The answer is an obvious yes. Before the advent of culture change for nursing homes, chances are your choice of foods were limited, and the time when you ate was most likely dictated by some archaic rule that said there must be 14 hours between your last substantial meal, (supper) and your next substantial meal (breakfast). What that more than likely meant was that at about 7am every morning your nursing assistant came into your room, turned on your lights and said, get up breakfast is ready. Now I don't know about you but I don't feel like being forced to eat the very minute that I get up. Well that's the way it was not too long ago in this industry,

Here at Orchard View Manor a more relaxed person centered atmosphere exists. You have a choice every morning to either eat in your room (room service) or perhaps dine in one of our two dining rooms where our chefs will craft breakfast for you. Each dining room features a full kitchen area complete with a grill and panini maker, commercial style waffle iron, and full convection oven where we prepare and bake a variety of muffins for your pleasure. We offer orange, cranberry, or apple juice, fresh brewed coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. You can select our fresh baked muffins, or danish. We will prepare omelets of your choice to order, french toast, waffles, or pancakes. You can compliment your meal with home fried potatoes, crisp bacon, grilled ham, or sausage.

This is giving the people what they want at its finest. Service such as this is now our way of life. Our residents enjoy the atmosphere, the choices offered, and the outstanding service that we provide. So if food is an important aspect in your decision for placement of a loved one for nursing home care, think first about culture change and Orchard View Manor Nursing and rehabilitative Care. 135 Tripps Lane East Providence RI (401-438-2250).

I've been out of the country

It has been a couple of years since I last blogged. I kept threatening to do so but for some reason once you stop, you stop. If I could only incorporate that theory into my eating habits.
Last I left you, I was writing about culture change as it relates to food service in nursing homes. Let me give you a brief update about that. For those who don't know me, and I suspect there are plenty based on the fact that no one has accessed my blog page. Well almost no one, my daughter did, but I had to buy her a dinner to do so. My name is John Ladish, I have been the food service director at Orchard View Manor Nursing and Rehabilitative Care for well over 20 years. ( I suspect that my boss has not caught on to me yet, hence such a long employment). I have often thought of myself as a visionary when it comes to the business and pleasure of serving our residents at Orchard View. Several years ago, our administrator Mr. Bisbano challenged his department heads with a monthly vision meeting. These meetings were to get us to think of new and innovative ideas that when we put them into place, it could potentially make us better, and stronger than the competition. The challenge was set, and accepted, and I haven't looked back since.
Tomorrow I will write about some of the gains that Orchard View Manor has made with respect to culture change.
By the way, nice to be back.
